Welcome to Age Of Ittgard!

December 2016. 4 guys around a dinner table, casually playing some games. The reason? One of them wanted to pitch his idea about something that was going on in his mind and he needed some help with that. After three hours of critical questions everyone was aboard to set sail on an epic adventure. An adventure full of problems, time consuming tasks and challenges to overcome. However, it was also a journey of developing new skills, solving problems and most importantly, having fun. Throughout this journey, we have started from scratch over 5 times, and have adjusted our plans well over a thousand times.

Finally we decided to go for the current approach, using mods as they gave us the flexibility that we needed. Nevertheless, the issues didn't stop there. Even after a few months there was little to no progress, as our team only consisted of 6 persons at that time. To increase the size of our team we decided to set up a smaller server, as well as give future players a sneak preview. For now, both projects are still in the development phase, with our focus on the smaller survival RPG named Dawn of Ittgard.

After the alpha release, we hope to recruit some more staff. This way the Dawn of Ittgard could become self supportive, and then we can slowly start to move our focus to the bigger MMO-RPG named Age of Ittgard.

For now, we are looking for all kinds of staff members. This includes, but is not limited to; builders, programmers and most importantly artists. If you would like to join our team or just would like some more information, feel free to join our discord server. This will be our primary outlet for updates and quick news. However, don't forget to check out our development updates on our website as well, to see what we've been up to lately!

Update 1.3: Progression Paths

Greetings fellow Ittguardians to this chapter of the Developer Updates.

Progression will be a big part of the Ittgard experience. Gaining strength through completing tasks, defeating bosses and slaying enough enemies.

We have two distinct progression paths which you can both take. The first one is the ranking system. The second is the skill tree. Both very important in gaining power within the realms of Ittgard.

No levels

When we first started designing our progression, we of course had a level system in mind. But after doing some research we realized that you do not really need a level in order to progress. Levels are the easiest way of progression because it gives the player a visible and recognizable value on how good they are doing. We took on the challenge, no levels but still the same progression experience.

Levels are the easiest way of progression because it gives the player a visible and recognizable value on how good they are doing. We took on the challenge, no levels but still have the same progression.

Ranks

The first of the two are the Ranks. Players can progress through the Ranks by completing the Rank missions. These missions can be found in the capital building of each city. When you achieve a new rank you unlock new gameplay and quality of life features. These features will not give you a combat advantage in pvp situations.

We decided that the ranks should not reflect on how strong the player is, hiding their true strength and potential.

After going through the first six ranks you will be able to choose a specialised path which grants more specific benefits that can suit your playstyle.

These paths are:

  • Religious; giving you nature oriented bonuses such as animal lure and mob evasion, finishing with the option to become your faction leader.
  • Economic; giving you more shop slots, the ability to own a guildhouse (a big shop) in a city and finishing with the ability to open a bank.
  • Craftsmanship; giving you more benefits towards crafting and repairing, finishing with the ability to create custom items, weapons and armour for the game.
  • Academic; giving you more benefits towards enchanting, finishing with the ability to write everything that happens on the server into the official lore.

Skills

The Skills will be your source of strength. Through completing missions, defeating bosses or doing other tasks you can gain perk points. The points can be spent on a number of skills.

We divided the skill tree up into 4 distinct parts. Combat, Survival, Utility and Homestead. Through playing the game you gain up to 86 points. This means that if you want, you can complete two full skill paths. Finding the optimal combination for how you want to play the game will be crucial.

The Skill tree has three different kind of skills you can unlock. You have the regular skills, which give stat increases, percentage increases or passive skills. These will always cost 1 perk point.

Each path has its own unique abilities. Things you can activate to gain a power boost for a period of time. These abilities can include: speed boost, area of effect on swords, tree feller, underwater breathing ect. These will always cost 3 perk points.

Between two different paths you will find the combo skills. These require a few skills from both paths to unlock and increase stats, passives and abilities depending on the combination. These will always cost 2 perk points.

Summary of the paths:

  • Combat; flat and percentual combat stat increases as well as combat focussed abilities.
  • Survival; focus on health, food and general survival. With abilities that ensure your survival out in the wild or under water.
  • Utility; focus on movement and travel. Abilities and stat increases such as movement speed, horse speed, boat speed and even flight.
  • Homestead; focus on life on the farm. Tree feller, miner, digger and replanting are among the abilities within this path. And for the builder an increase in block placement and breaking range.

Resetting

Both the Skills and Ranks can be reset, however the potions needed to do so are hard to come by.

How will you combine the skill to gain the most power? How will you travel through the ranks to gain the most prestige?

Stay within the realms of Ittgard to see what the future holds. For next time: the world itself, how it functions and all you can do in it.

Update 1.2: Factions

Hello Ittguardians and welcome back to another Developers update.

Today we will talk about the factions in Dawn of Ittgard.

Pantheon

When you enter the server for the first time you will get to choose your allegiance to a faction. This will not be a country, nor a faction within a country. Every faction follows one god from the Ittgard pantheon. Although the cults disagree on who is the best god, they have learned to live in harmony together.

Each faction has its own benefits and plays differently within Ittgard. Choose your faction wisely, because changing might just mark you as a traitor and an unfaithful.

The factions:
The following factions will be available from launch:

The Factions

The following factions will be available from launch:

  1. The cult of Ollurn
    1. Ollurn is the god of peace and prosperity. During his reign the Earth prospered. Plants and animals thrive and his following stands close with nature. People pray to Ollurn during peace negotiations and he protects travellers and merchants.
  2. The cult of Thay’Gall
    1. Thay’Gall is the god of pain and torment. He wishes only bad things upon the human race, but continues to have a following. The humans following this outcast try to ease the pain, which is the cause of his hatred for everything and everyone. For this, he is his followers eternally grateful.
  3. The cult of Wogan
    1. Wogan is the god of Life and Lust. He is the reason people fall in love and he is the reason that humans and animals father offspring. Because of this he is loved by the people but despised by the other gods. Wogan misleads his lovers and can force everyone to like him.
  4. The cult of Lriana
    1. Lriana is the goddess of strength and willpower. She is the First Warrior. Before battle the humans pray to her for good fortune. She also protects women during childbirth and gives power and legitimacy to those who deserve to rule. Her followers aren’t all warriors though, many of them do every day jobs but find strength in her wisdom.
  5. The cult of Armonia
    1. Armonia is the goddess of harmony and forgiveness. Her following is most tolerant to all other cults. They believe that no harm will come when everybody lives in harmony. Do not fall for this peaceful outside though. Athyne may be tolerant but her following believes that if everybody follows their ideals only then can harmony be achieved. They may be forgiving but not shy of fighting for control.
  6. The cult of Rhealiza
    1. Rhealiza is the goddess of Time and Justice. She is the roll model of judges. Her word is law and everyone who doesn’t follow it will become victim to her enforcers. Yet everything has it’s time and nothing has to be in a hurry. People who like to live their lives without worries and with no stress would be wise to follow her.

Leaders

A faction without a leader is no faction at all. Achieve a certain rank and you will be able to become your factions leader. A faction leader will have the power to do the following things:

  • Exile unfaithful faction members.
  • Later on leaders will be able to declare wars and form coalitions against growing threats.
  • More features might come later, but this is it for now.

Thank you for reading this next instalment of the Developer updates for Dawn of Ittgard. Next time we will explore the ranks and how to progress them.

Update 1.1: Future

Hello Ittguardians!

Welcome to our first Developers Update. These will be posted regularly on our website and linked in our discord. In the blog we will talk about features and builds on both Dawn of Ittgard (the survival rpg) and Age of Ittgard (the mmo-rpg).

Before we will indulge you in the mechanics of our servers, we will first talk about what’s next.

Age of Ittgard

As the concept started to take shape we quickly came to realise that it would be way bigger than first thought. Because of our small team progress was slow and we didn’t make much gain.

Age of Ittgard

As the concept started to take shape we quickly came to realise that it would be way bigger than first thought. Because of our small team progress was slow and we didn’t make much gain.

After three do-overs we decided that with the amount of work that needed to be done and not enough hands to make it happen that we had to change our strategy. Before the Age there has to be a Dawn.

Dawn of Ittgard

To give players something to play with and give us a chance to recruit new staff members more easily we decided to make a secondary, way smaller, server.

Dawn of Ittgard will be an open world survival rpg server. This means that besides a few cities, dungeons and other locations most of the map is free to build, destroy en play around like a normal minecraft singleplayer game.

Conquest Reforged

To bring our world truly alive the way we want it to be, we couldn’t just rely on plugins and vanilla minecraft. Conquest reforged is an existing modpack that gave us the tools to make a completely unique world and environment to survival in.

Dawn of Ittgard will only make us of this modpack and the rest will be handled by plugins.

For Age of Ittgard we will make our own modpack and add the conquest modpack to the long list of other features.

Age of Ittgard has been put into the fridge. The focus will be completely on Dawn of Ittgard.

Thank you for reading and join us next time when we explore how the playing field will be divided into factions and how you can control the server politics with your allies.

Everything about Age Of Ittgard

Have you ever dreamed of being submerged in a world of quests, magic and adventure? Well, we have. That is why we decided to start the creation of Ittgard, a MMO RPG, using Minecraft as an engine to run the base code of our game.
However, now you might think why we would be different from all the other MMO RPG games that are out there. We decided to take a bit of a different approach to the storyline. In our game, you will not play as the hero that saves the day, but just as a "normal" person. You can choose your own path, and either die a villain or live long enough to see yourself become the hero.

Currently we are working with a team of 9 people, but we are looking to expand that to make progress go more efficient as well as quicker. Our big rpg world that will be filled to the brim with quests is a big project that will not be finished any time soon, therefore we decided to give you something to chew on until then. As a side project we are working on a little survival server, to raise the corner of the veil of what our big project will look like in the future.
You can already join at mc.ageofittgard.ga, using the conquest reforged modpack. If you would like to get some more information, or strengthen our team please feel free to join our discord server!

Our staff team

A while ago, the four of us came up with a plan to start up this project. We knew very well that it would be extremely ambitious and that there was a big chance that we would give up after a month. Nevertheless, we started it up and put a lot of work in it. That was already 2 years ago. In this time we have recruited 6 others to help us in our long journey, and we are still recruiting.
To organize the workload and seperate the task we split our team up in departments. Who is working in what department can be found on this page. If you would like to join our team as well, you can join our discord server and talk to one of the four admins.

  • Sjoerd, also known as Chrwytdal is our Game-Director. He is responsible for the mod and plugin design and coördination between all the departments. Thankfully, he also writes the lore. As director he has the final say on finished products.
  • Casper, or C_Thijsen is our Lead-Programmer. He makes the mods as well as plugins, and he helped with creating a big part of our website. His awesome creative mind, combined with musical talent shall also be broadcasted on the server later on.
  • Maarten, our most active player on the server to this date, is our Lead-Builder. MaadN, as he is called in game, designs and creates a big deal of the map on both Dawn and Age of Ittgard. He is also responsible for coördinating the other builders that help him on the server.
  • Niels, more commonly known as niedemincrafter is our Head of Community. He basically helps us manage everything that the others are too socially akward to do. From staff recruiting to making the website, he does a bit of everything. Until the final release of the server you probably will not see him in game very often though, but if you need him he will be there to help!
